Time: A Gift from Allah That We Can’t Take for Granted

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about time and how quickly it passes. Every day, every hour, every minute is a gift from Allah (SWT)—a gift we can’t get back once it’s gone. Yet, how often do we really stop and think about it?

Allah (SWT) emphasizes the importance of time in the Quran, and it’s striking that He even swears by it. In Surah Al-Asr, He says:

"By time, indeed, mankind is in loss, except for those who have believed and done righteous deeds and advised each other to truth and patience."

It’s a short chapter, but it hits hard. Allah is essentially reminding us that time is precious, and life can slip away in an instant. If we spend it without purpose, without faith, without kindness, we are truly losing something invaluable.

For me, this is a wake-up call. Every moment is an opportunity—to pray, to learn, to love, to make a difference. Time is not just hours on a clock; it’s a chance to live intentionally.

I try to remind myself to:

  • Reflect on how I spend my day

  • Focus on actions that truly matter

  • Balance my worldly tasks with spiritual growth

Time can’t be paused or rewound. But we can choose how we use it, how we make it count, and how we let it shape us into better people.

So today, I want to remind myself—and you too—that every second is a gift from Allah. Let’s not waste it. Let’s live it with purpose, gratitude, and faith.
