How Journaling helps me to connect with Allah and his Messenger

I’ve always been the type to write things down — little thoughts, ideas, or pieces of knowledge. I never wanted to lose them. Somehow, writing made me remember better, like I was holding on to something meaningful. But I never really had a proper book to capture my thoughts and feelings all in one place. Every time I study the Qur’an, I find myself pouring out my reflections, because I know the verses aren’t just “there.” They are placed for a reason, waiting for me to notice them at that exact moment. Nothing in the Qur’an is a coincidence. Yet, I often had nowhere to gather all these reflections in one place.

That’s when I started this journal.

We already know that the Qur’an and Hadith teach us guidance — but journaling allows me to truly understand, connect, and live by them. Writing slows me down. It makes me pause and ask: What is Allah saying to me here? How does this apply to my life right now?

Journaling also helps me recognize patterns in my spiritual journey. When I revisit my notes, I notice how certain verses comforted me during struggles, or how a hadith challenged me to grow stronger. Over time, these pages become living proof of how the Qur’an and Sunnah continue to speak into my life.

The Qur’an and Hadith are not just to be read — they are to be lived. And journaling is one way I remind myself that every verse, every teaching, is a personal message from Allah, waiting for me to respond.

So here’s my takeaway: if you haven’t started journaling yet, do it. What you write today may not be something you immediately remember, but it may turn out to be useful — if not for you, then perhaps for your children one day, when you recall a moment and find it written right there.

Now I leave you with this, " “Indeed in their stories there is a lesson for those of understanding. Never was it [the Qur’an] a narration invented, but a confirmation of what was before it and a detailed explanation of all things and guidance and mercy for a people who believe.” — Surah Yusuf (12:111)
